Cryptography: A brief history of secrecy

Roel Willems

In the first part of this talk I will give a brief and far from complete overview of the cryptosystems used through the centuries and some of the mathematics behind it. For example the Caesar cipher, the Vigenère cipher, Enigma, Diffie-Hellman, RSA and elliptic curve cryptography.
In the second part I will discuss Moh's Tame Transformation Method, which is a public key cryptosystem, using tame polynomial automorphisms over F2.
